Meet Eleanor as she reflects on twists of fate that took her from Africa to the vibrant Renaissance court of James the Fourth. It’s 1507 and Eleanor, an attendant to the king’s daughter Lady Margaret, has just returned from a royal tournament. This short story was written and performed by Freya of the Lyceum Youth Theatre in collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland. It’s inspired by royal accounts of Eleanor’s time at court and historic studies of African people in Scotland. Eleanor’s tale is part of a historic fiction series that explores moments in the castle’s history through the eyes of children, perspectives that are rarely recorded.
